About Paleo Discoveries™
Fred fell in love with natural history when he was 5 years old. That was a long time ago! But he never stopped digging the past.
Fred has over 30 years of fossil hunting experience along the east coast and has amassed an impressive collection of fossil finds.
He has made significant contributions of unusual fossils to both the New Jersey State Museum and the Florida Museum of Natural History.
Most importantly, he has been relied on as a resource throughout an extensive network of both amateur and professional paleontologists.
He has also been a subject matter expert for fossil exhibits for over 15 years.
Fred knows his stuff!
When he’s not out on a tour with people just like you Fred travels around the country looking for fossils. He has also been invited to deliver programs to libraries and schools for many years. Before he turned his passion for all things fossils into a business, Fred was digging the dirt. Prior to starting Paleo Discoveries™ Fred owned and managed a very successful landscaping business in northern New Jersey for over 20 years.
He’s also known for being easy-going and has a great sense of humor. That has served him well through the years both in landscaping, and now, into creating satisfying experiences for fellow fossil enthusiasts.
Our Mission
Fred started Paleo Discoveries in 2004 as a way to combine his passion for the outdoors with his knowledge of the natural history of our planet.
Our mission is to support others in discovering and experiencing that same kind of passion for our planet’s history in a fun and interactive way. This is what Paleo Discoveries is all about!
Why The East Coast? Why Florida?
While the entire east coast, particularly the southeast, is a rich source of fossil material, Fred chose Florida because it is one of the richest sources of fossil material, both quality and quantity.
The beautiful weather also makes year round collecting possible. You could say Florida is the best place to be for both the beginner as well as the serious collector.
